Are your polycarbonate sheets UV-protected?
Yes. All our polycarbonate sheets are UV-stabilised — they have a protective co-extruded layer that prevents yellowing, brittleness and surface degradation from prolonged outdoor exposure. This is essential for Ireland's climate, where UV levels cause long-term damage even on overcast days. Without UV stabilisation, polycarbonate sheets can start to yellow and become brittle within a few years.
What fixings do I need to install polycarbonate roofing sheets?
For a standard installation you'll typically need: hardened steel screws with caps (to fix sheets to the frame), aluminium or plastic H-joiners (to connect sheets side by side), F-profile aluminium endstops (to cap off the open ends of the flutes), breathable sealing tape (applied to the top of each sheet before the endstop, to stop dirt and insects entering the flutes), and U-finish pieces for the bottom edge. Can polycarbonate sheets be cut to size?
Yes — polycarbonate sheets are easy to cut at home with a jigsaw, circular saw or a fine-toothed handsaw. They cut cleanly and don't require specialist tools. Always cut with the flutes (the hollow channels) running vertically in the finished installation, so water drains out of the bottom rather than sitting trapped inside.
Are polycarbonate sheets suitable for Irish weather?
Absolutely. Polycarbonate is one of the best roofing materials for Ireland's wet, windy climate. It's impact-resistant (far more so than glass), won't shatter in hail, handles sub-zero winter temperatures without cracking, and remains flexible enough not to split under wind load.
